Review: Smith Shift XL MAG Sunglasses

The Smith Shift XL MAG Sunglasses Are A Dream For Large Faced Bikers, Runners

Description From SMITH

The SMITH Shift XL MAG sunglasses are an oversized shield made for maximum coverage and performance on the bike and trail. Their wide-shield coverage maintains full vision at speed while ChromaPop™ brings every detail of the road and trail to life with enhanced contrast and natural color. SMITH MAG interchangeable lenses use a magnetic clip for quick, fingerprint-free lens changes. Combined with a lightweight frame and non-slip nose pads, they stay put through long, hot climbs, fast descents, and extended trail time.

Black sunglasses sit on a wooden stump in a park. The background features blurry trees and greenery with visible "Smith" text on the frame.

Wearing The SMITH Shift XL Mags

As someone that has a decently wide noggin it can be tough to find a pair of glasses that fit well, although over the past couple of years frame materials are getting more comfortable and flexible and that has definitely helped. When I first tried on the SMITH Shift XL Mag glasses it kind of felt like they weren't on. Almost like they were too big and I initially thought maybe they would just fall right off while riding. Turns out I was very wrong. That feels like they aren't there feeling was just the feeling of extreme comfort. While riding at speed through the chunkiest of chunk the Shift XL Mag glasses didn't budge. Most glasses end up sliding down my nose after a few feet of riding and I am constantly pushing them back up on my face. They also fit super well with my Sweet Protection Bushwhacker 2Vi helmet. Some large coverage style glasses are too tall and the brim of the helmet pushes the glasses down. Not with these. They are probably the closest to perfect fitting glasses I have ridden.

The slight wrap around offers tons of coverage and I never had any issues with wind in my eyes. One thing I usually have issues with is fogging. I produce a lot of heat and usually when stopping most glasses instantly start fogging up on me. The Shift XL Mags didn't fog once during my time riding with them.

The lens clarity on these are phenomenal and the contrast that CHROMAPOP™ offers is truly amazing. Even the clear lens has CHROMAPOP™. If you haven't tried a pair of SMITH sunglasses with CHROMAPOP™ you need to do it.

Changing the lenses is super easy. By pressing a tab on the arms where it says SMITH the top half of the frame pulls up and off and the lenses are attached to that upper part of the frame. Then you just put the other lens down into the bottom part of the frame and close that tab and you're done.

Wrapping It Up

If you are looking for a large fit/large coverage pair of glasses that feel like they aren't there, don't move during activity, don't fog, look rad and just work, stop looking and don't go trying to find a $30 pair on Amazon because they won't be as good as these (I've tried).
