I first saw Ombraz sunglasses popping up on my instagram feed during my mindless scrolling surf sessions. Their ads caught my eye with sight of a thin cord instead of typical arms to secure the sunnies to your face. The people wearing them in the ads sure seemed happy about it. But did the armless Ombraz really live up to the hype of achieving the ultimate in comfort and function for a pair of sunglasses? As somewhat of a sunglass afficiando, I needed to know for myself if these odd looking sunglasses did as advertised. When I reached out to Ombraz about snagging a pair to review they were super kind and sent me a code to pick out some sunglasses to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or for worse. When picking out your Ombraz sunglasses they have helpful fitment charts and descriptions so you can see what fit best suits your needs. They also have great written and video instructions on how to wear them. The trick is not to tighten up the cord too much. They can be worn a lot looser than you think. Dial in your sweet spot to take advantage of maximum comfort.

I opted for the XL Leggeros based on recommended sizing on the Ombraz website. I have a medium to wide head, at least from the outside of the corners my eyes. Finding a pair of sunglasses that fit really good without being too tight can often be difficult. Also, finding snowboarding goggles where the inside foam doesn't touch the outer corners of my eyes can be a challenge too. If you want to know what goggles I am running you can check them out here at DANG Shades.

Out of the box I could tell the XL Leggero's were the right choice for me. They have good coverage and the fit feels spot on. I love the feel of them when they are on and by the feel of them, I should really be saying that I don't really feel them at all. At least on the sides where the arms would typically be on a normal pair of sunglasses. I do still feel them on the nose and down at the bottom of the frames. I feel like the fit is good on my face and across the bridge of my nose, but it's not perfect. I do feel a bit of a pressure after having them on for a while at the bottom part of the frames where it touches my face just next to the sides of my nose. They are still overall more comfortable than any other glasses with arms that I've owned.

Ombraz work nice for the making my way up the skin track while splitboarding.

A couple of weeks ago I wore these splitboarding. I always wear sunglasses on the way up the skin track. If any of you backcountry ski or splitboard you will know that goggles are way too sweaty while you're slogging uphill through the snow. I am what some call a furnace because I produce so much body heat even when I am not moving. When I start doing any sort of work I quickly overheat if I have too many layers on. At the end of a day of snowboarding when I take off my boots, there is literally steam rising up out of my boots. So of course anything near my face is going to fog up. I was hoping for less fog with the Ombraz, which is something they advertise, however I found they ended up fogging up just as much or maybe even more than my other sunglasses that I usually wear. I think that is due to how close the Ombraz Leggero's fit to my face. My other glasses I usually wear splitboarding sit out away from my face quite a bit more than the Ombraz Leggeros and they don't end up getting as foggy. I think the comfort makes up for it though. They also pack away a bit smaller due to not having arms. I also feel like they are going to have much less chance of breaking in my pack. The materials Ombraz is using looks and feels top notch as well. The frames are made from what Ombraz say is indestructible TR-90 Nylon. I haven't tried destroying them but I honestly don't want to.

There are situations where I might still choose my regular old armed sunnies. Like if I am out running errands and I am in and out of my truck every few minutes. I still feel like it's a bit more convenient taking my regular sunglasses off and getting them back on. If I am doing any sort of outdoor activity or going to be driving for any length of time over 15 minutes though, the Ombraz are going on my face! The longer they are on my face the more I can tell the difference in comfort. If I wear my other glasses for longer than 45 minutes to an hour I start feeling pain behind my ears and tend to get headaches too. Ombraz over the long haul are much better. Plus I can hang them on stuff. How neat is that?

The other plus Ombraz have going for them are the fact that they just aren't going to fall off! End of story! But for real, if you live an active outdoor lifestyle and participate in any kind of outdoor activities, you should own a pair of Ombraz sunglasses. Not only could you bike, hike, fish, run, and more in these, you could also wear them straight up in the water. Go for a swim, or go wake surfing or wakeboarding. Ombraz would be the perfect sunglasses for a day of boating or river rafting.

For those activities where you will need to block peripheral light and reduce glare you can opt for removable side shields and nose plug that are completely malleable and with patented-pending louvered ventilation.

Ombraz is also deeply committed to the environment and being as friendly to our planet as possible through their zero plastic packaging and their Shade Project where Ombraz is planting 20 Mangrove trees for every pair of Ombraz sold through their partners at Eden Reforestation Projects. They have also been certified by 1% For the Planet and Climate Neutral. Through these efforts Ombraz is able to sequester 1,713X more carbon than is emitted to produce and deliver each pair, which makes a pair of Ombraz the most carbon-negative product ever sold.

Here is what the media has had to say about Ombraz. From what I am seeing from others as well as from my own experience, Ombraz hascome up with a clever new way to do sunglasses that works and is what I would call a disruptor in the sunglasses space.

My Ombraz came packaged with no extra waste and yet they were packaged securely enough to not get damaged along the way. They also come with a nice soft case and a soft cloth for cleaning. I look forward to taking my Ombraz on many adventures to come!
