Review: Club Ride New West Shirt And Gunslinger Chamois Shorts

Club Ride New West Shirt And Gunslinger Chamois Shorts Are The Definition Of MTB Comfort.

My Thoughts On The New West Shirt

I am mostly a black t-shirt for all occasions kind of guy most days including mountain biking so to catch me wearing anything with color is a bit wild, especially if it's a button up. It almost makes me feel like I am going to some kind of worship service. Although mountain biking can be both sacred and spiritual sometimes. Once buttoning up the western style snap buttons on the Club Ride New West Shirt and I start pedaling the thoughts of dressed up turn to thoughts of wow this shirt is really comfortable! I am about 6'3" and weigh about 270 lbs with wide Defensive Lineman shoulders and the XXL size fits perfectly. It could be a bit looser in the chest and stomach area but that's on me. Maybe at 48 years old it's time to cut back on how many post ride tacos and beers I'm consuming? The fabric has a nice soft feel with a 2-way stretch made with 95% poly 5% spandex. The material is breathable on its own, but being a button up there is plenty of air flow along with ventilated areas under the pits. The fabric has moisture wicking properties as well as sun protection with a 50 UPF rating. The New West Shirt is loaded up with features like a hidden sunglasses cleaner, a chest pocket, a zippered pocket on the bottom/back of the shirt and reflective accents for riding at night. Besides being comfy and breathable AF, one benefit of a button up while riding bikes is you can wear your action cam chest mount underneath your shirt allowing the camera to just attach through an opening between buttons. This means you don't have to worry about wearing the chest mount over the top of a t-shirt and having the straps squish your dad bod in all the wrong ways and spots. The button up leaves much to the imagination and possibility of a firm, fit, pre dad bod lurking underneath the shirt. The relaxed fit and the 2 way stretch allows for freedom of movement on and off the bike and is just super comfortable for all occasions. The New West Shirt retails at $90 but it's probably the last shirt you'll ever need, although you might love it so much you just might want one in every color!

The Gunslinger Chamois Shorts

For a lot of my shorter rides which for me fall into the 6 miles or less segment, I usually just wear whatever boxer brief underwear I have on that day. I am not usually a fan of the sweaty diaper feeling that most chamois underwear have. But for longer rides my rear end needs a bit of extra padding. The 8" Club Ride Gunslinger Chamois shorts however feel pretty close to a normal pair of boxer breifs. The Gunslinger falls into Club Rides "All Around" category. This category offers a step up in both thickness and density of the padding, catering to intermediate riders or those embarking on longer rides. The All Around chamois provide better shock absorption and comfort, suitable for varied terrain encountered in mountain biking. These are designed for moderate endurance rides, generally comfortable for durations between 2 to 5 hours. The materials used often have higher breathability and moisture-wicking properties to handle increased sweat and heat. Club Ride also has a "Lightweight" category for shorter rides and an "Endurance" category for rides over 5 hours as well. The Gunslinger suits me perfect as none of my longer rides are longer than 3-4 hours but long enough I need some decent padding but still offer plenty of breathability and moisture wicking capabilities. These shorts offer a 4 way stretch allowing for a good amount of restriction free movement and comfort. The chamois pad itself has perforated memory foam for increased ventilation and elasticity. The fabric consists of 44% nylon, 44% poly and 12% spandex. These are a well made pair of bike underwear that offer up a level of comfort and breathability most shorts with a chamois lack. For a retail price of $55 there is a lot of value packed into the Gunslinger shorts.
