The kind folks over at Sweet Protection sent over their Sweet Protection Bushwhacker 2VI MIPS MTB Helmet for a review and I've been putting it through a good bit of testing. Here are my initial thoughts on this helmet so far.

Fit

First off, the Bushwhacker fits very good. My head measures right around 59.5 cm around and I am testing the L/XL. According to Sweet Protections size chart this should fit those with a 59-61 cm noggin. If your head is bigger than that you're out of luck and you can go cry yourself to sleep on your huge pillow. This helmet has a rounder fit than other helmets I have tried and my head is a bit more oblong front to back, however dialing in Sweet Protection's 360 Occigrip fit system it cradles my hairless head perfectly with no weird pressure points or anything. Another feature aiding in the comfort of this helmet are the vents and liner system. I might just be the sweatiest living creature currently walking the earth and the Bushwhacker has kept me nice and cool up top.

I have tried several different pairs of sunglasses with this helmet and all fit really well. On my POC Kortal that I have been using for the past year and a half there are a couple spots that don't play well with my glasses. The front of the helmet comes down quite far and the helmet also moves down my forehead while riding both aggressive and mellow downhill and pushes on the top of my glasses and I have to keep pushing my glasses back on my face. Also where the arms of the sunglasses sit just behind my ears, the Kortal puts a bit of pressure against the arms of the glasses causing slight pain on longer rides. This Sweet Protection Bushwhacker does neither of those things.

Something that I have tried with other helmets is placing my sunglasses in the vents when it has gotten dark and I have not had anywhere to put them. These efforts have all failed. One of those ending up in offering up a pair of sunnies to the trail gods. The Bushwhacker has two slots that are actually designed to hold your glasses and the few different pair of sunnies I have put into these special little slots have all stayed put very well. I even tried head banging to Metallicas Master of the Puppets to shake them loose and they didn't budge.

This is the first helmet I have used with fidlock and right at first I felt it a bit awkward but after figuring out how the fidlock system works I am now wishing all my helmets had this feature. It makes for super easy one handed buckling and unbuckling of the helmet strap.
